From filmmaker Mark Kitchell (Berkeley in the Sixties, A Fierce Green Fire) comes a new film: Evolution of Organic. ItÕs the story of organic agriculture, told by those who built the movement. A motley crew of back-to-the-landers, spiritual seekers and farmersÕ sons and daughters reject chemical farming and set out to explore organic alternatives. ItÕs a heartfelt journey of change, from a small band of rebels to a cultural transformation in the way we grow and eat food. By now organic has gone mainstream, split into an industry oriented toward bringing organic to all people and a movement that has realized a vision of sustainable agriculture. ItÕs the most popular and successful outgrowth of the environmental impulse of the last fifty years. Frances McDormand narrates a film that's funny and engaging as well as informative and illuminating. ItÕs a collective portrait, full of great stories and strong characters. We captured the arc of organic, from its alternative origins to mainstream triumph. Not just a history, the film explores the next generation expanding organic and carbon farming as a solution to climate change. Evolution of Organic is finished. We spent the last year raising $70K in finishing costs. Meanwhile we're doing grassroots outreach, played 50 engagements so far and aiming for 300. Now there's one last task: licensing music rights. From June 1 thru July 31, 2018 we will run a crowdfunding campaign called BUY US A SONG. Our goal is to raise $20K to license five pieces of music, including the Grateful Dead's "Uncle John's Band." This is the final round of fundraising, the last call. Whether you're thinking of giving again or are considering support for the first time, we hope you'll join a successful project that promises to be one of the defining films about organic. You can find the BUY US A SONG crowdfunding campaign at our website: evolutionoforganic.com. You can make a donation here, which will be tax-deductible.
